 MISSIONARY BENEDICTINE SISTERS OF TUTZING

A community has been in Baltar, near Porto, since 1968. The sisters ran a higher school for about 500 children until it was given up following the revolution in Portugal. At that time the community chose to turn over the buildings as a social institution for mentally challenged children.
The Emmaus School thus developed still operates today. Two sisters are employed in this school, one as a teach, the other as administrator. About 74 challenged children attend Emmaus and learn many good and helpful things for their lives.

The sisters also engage in catechetics and youth ministry and take care of the poor who, in this rural area, are never lacking.
