MISSIONARY BENEDICTINE SISTERS OF TUTZING

Namibia

1920: Eight former East African missionaries and one new missionary undertook ministry in the former Southwest Africa, today Namibia.
German Oblates of Mary Immaculate (OMI) had cared for this territory since 1895 with great sacrifice and effort. The breathtaking adventures that these first missionaries faced are told in the booklet by then Bishop Gotthard, Up to the Okavango! (Auf zum Okavango!).
Together with the Oblates, the sisters worked first and foremost in the flourishing mission stations on the Okavango River and in Ovamboland, as well as in the Catholic Hospital in Windhoek.
Soon a native congregation of Benedictine Sisters was established in Oshikuku that developed well and became autonomous.
In 1999, 58 of these sisters chose to transfer to our Congregation, thus increasing the number of stations belonging to the priory.

Greetings from beautiful Okavango
